USA Water Ski will hold the inaugural USA Water Ski GrassRoots National Championships on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Lake Grew in Polk City, Fla. Lake Grew, a world-record capability water ski venue, is adjacent to the American Water Ski Educational Foundation's Water Ski Hall of Fame and USA Water Ski headquarters. Any water ski (slalom and tricks) athlete or barefoot (slalom and tricks) water ski athlete who has participated in a GrassRoots Series event in 2010 is eligible to compete in the event. 3-Year-Old Girl Qualifies For Nationals

Three-year-old Kimberly Westover of Mesa, Ariz., will be the youngest competitor to ever participate in the GOODE Water Ski National Championships when the 68th annual event takes place Aug. 8-14 at Waters Edge in Wilmington, Ill. Kimberly, who turned 3 in April, qualified in the Girls 1 (ages 9 and under) division based upon her performance at the 2010 Western Regional Water Ski Championships, July 21-24, in Caldwell, Idaho. A top-five placement at the Regionals earns an athlete a berth in the Nationals.

Sixteen athletes won national titles at the 4th annual USHA Hydrofoil Nationals, July 15-18, at Water Valley Lakes in Windsor, Colo. More than 30 of the nation's top hydrofoil athletes competed during the four-day event, which was conducted by the United States Hydrofoil Association and hosted by the Rocky Mountain Hydrofoil Club.

The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) won the 2010 Wisconsin State Show Ski Championships, July 15-18, at Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids. The Rock Aqua Jays earned top-scoring awards for dock and equipment, pick-up boat, towboat, sound crew, barefooting, jumping and high scoring act in tallying a grand total of 1,992.22 points.

Former professional slalom skier Jennifer Leachman-LaPoint is currently working on developing inter-high school water skiing competitions in central Florida, and spearheading the development of the first "water ski academy." Leachman-LaPoint was recently named the director of water skiing at the Montverde Academy near Orlando, Fla., where she will develop the water ski and wakeboard program beginning in the spring of 2011.

USA Water Ski has selected Chris Parrish (Orlando, Fla.) and Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) as its Male and Female Athletes of the Month, respectively, for June. The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) was selected USA Water Ski’s Team of the Month. Parrish, Jaquess and the Rock Aqua Jays are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee's Athlete and Team of the Month honors.
