USA Water Ski will hold the inaugural USA Water Ski GrassRoots National Championships on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Lake Grew in Polk City, Fla. Lake Grew, a world-record capability water ski venue, is adjacent to the American Water Ski Educational Foundation's Water Ski Hall of Fame and USA Water Ski headquarters. Any water ski (slalom and tricks) athlete or barefoot (slalom and tricks) water ski athlete who has participated in a GrassRoots Series event in 2010 is eligible to compete in the event. Three-year-old Kimberly Westover of Mesa, Ariz., will be the youngest competitor to ever participate in the GOODE Water Ski National Championships when the 68th annual event takes place Aug. 8-14 at Waters Edge in Wilmington, Ill. Kimberly, who turned 3 in April, qualified in the Girls 1 (ages 9 and under) division based upon her performance at the 2010 Western Regional Water Ski Championships, July 21-24, in Caldwell, Idaho. A top-five placement at the Regionals earns an athlete a berth in the Nationals.

Thirty-six athletes won national titles at the 33rd annual Parson's Roofing Barefoot Water Ski National Championships, July 22-24, at Mystic Lakes in Maize, Kan.

The 33rd annual Lake Elmo Sports Barefoot Water Ski National Championships got under way Thursday at Mystic Lakes in Maize, Kan. More than 100 athletes are competing in the three-day tournament, which concludes Saturday.

U.S. water ski athletes Chris Parrish and Regina Jaquess won respective slalom titles on July 18 at the 2010 Alizée Cup professional slalom tournament in Eurolac, France.

Sixteen athletes won national titles at the 4th annual USHA Hydrofoil Nationals, July 15-18, at Water Valley Lakes in Windsor, Colo. More than 30 of the nation's top hydrofoil athletes competed during the four-day event, which was conducted by the United States Hydrofoil Association and hosted by the Rocky Mountain Hydrofoil Club.

The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) won the 2010 Wisconsin State Show Ski Championships, July 15-18, at Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids. The Rock Aqua Jays earned top-scoring awards for dock and equipment, pick-up boat, towboat, sound crew, barefooting, jumping and high scoring act in tallying a grand total of 1,992.22 points.

The American Water Ski Educational Foundation (AWSEF) Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee has announced the awarding of four college scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each, and the Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Scholarship in the amount of $3,000.

Some of the world's top professional water ski jumpers will take to the water on Saturday night for the inaugural King of Darkness jumping tournament at Groveland Oaks County Park in Holly, Mich.

The 2010 International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation Cable Wakeboard World Championships got under way Wednesday in Neubrandenburg, Germany. A four-member U.S. Cable Wakeboard Team is competing in the event, which runs through Sunday.

The boat draw information for the 68th GOODE Water Ski National Championships has been revised as of July 14. The Nationals will be held Aug. 8-14 in Wilmington, Ill.

The nation's top hydrofoil athletes will be competing Thursday through Sunday in the fourth annual USHA Hydrofoil Nationals in Windsor, Colo.

The 44th Wisconsin State Show Ski Championships, the world's largest water ski tournament with more than 25 teams performing, will take place Thursday through Sunday at Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

The Backwater Gamblers (Rock Island, Ill.) won the 2010 Central Regional Show Ski Championships, July 10-11, at Hidden Lake in Warsaw, Ind. The Backwater Gamblers earned top-scoring awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show, high individual club act and ballet in tallying a grand total of 1,949.2 points.

The American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee recently announced roster changes to the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team that will compete in the Pan American Water Ski Championships, Nov. 22-28, in San Bernardo, Chile.

Former professional slalom skier Jennifer Leachman-LaPoint is currently working on developing inter-high school water skiing competitions in central Florida, and spearheading the development of the first "water ski academy." Leachman-LaPoint was recently named the director of water skiing at the Montverde Academy near Orlando, Fla., where she will develop the water ski and wakeboard program beginning in the spring of 2011.

In observance of the Independence Day holiday, USA Water Ski headquarters will be closed on Monday, July 5.

The American Kneeboard Association has selected the U.S. athletes who will participate in the 2010 International Kneeboard Rider Cup, Sept. 2-5, at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.

USA Water Ski has selected Chris Parrish (Orlando, Fla.) and Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) as its Male and Female Athletes of the Month, respectively, for June. The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) was selected USA Water Ski’s Team of the Month. Parrish, Jaquess and the Rock Aqua Jays are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee's Athlete and Team of the Month honors.
